Reviews Of Regional At Best By Twenty One Pilots Album, Indie Pop
Noting the songwriter’s talent and creative energy, Salih consulted Joseph about starting a band. Impressed by the recording studio Salih had built in his house, Joseph agreed to play music together and began sharing his ideas for new music. Just before their first performance, Joseph invited Thomas to join the unnamed band as a bassist. In 2009, the group moved into a house of their own, where their first album was conceptualized and recorded in the basement.
I hoped this album would have some hidden gems that were not on Vessel, making this album a rare treasure, but I could find very few. The Vessel songs are, for the most part, just worse mixes of their Vessel counterparts. Sure, they have different elements in them, which I liked, but for the most part, they just made me feel like feeling was missing. It is definitely still an amateur mix, despite all the improvements in production since self-titled. The Regional At Best songs that didn’t make Vessel didn’t make Vessel for a reason.
Joseph stated that he would like to focus on lyrical content of the music, and bring the music back to the “authenticity, lyrics, delivery, and fearlessness of songwriting” similar to that of the self-titled album. The band’s last activity came in July 2017 in the form of posts on social media depicting an eye closing over lyrics from several of their songs. The band’s first charting single, “Holding on to You”, reached No. 11 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. Additionally, the singles “Guns for Hands” and “Lovely” reached No. 21 and No. 67, respectively, on the Japan Hot 100.
Ever since these three started up the band in 2009 they have been turning heads everywhere they perform. Their live performance and energy are second to none, only to be complemented by their irresistible sound and catchy, well written lyrics. Twenty One Pilots puts it all on the table with every song and every show so be sure to check these guys out and see what all the buzz is about. The title, ‘regional at best’ poses the idea that, no matter how good they are ‘regional’ is the highest they can go. Since their signing to a record label, the band have had an incredible amount of success. From releasing numerous music videos to touring with Fall Out Boy on their Save Rock and Roll arena tour, as well as performing at a variety of festivals throughout 2014.
The band announced a London show in February 2016, and later announced a run of UK dates, with a second London date added. Salih left on May 8, 2011 to focus on work, and Thomas left the next month on June 3, 2011 to focus on schooling, both posting farewell notes on the band’s official Facebook page. Before departing the project, Salih invited Guitar Center co-worker and friend of the group Josh Dun , to take his place in the band.
He has ridden that wave, along with bandmate Josh Dun, to platinum plaques, Grammy Awards and becoming one of the biggest rock acts in the world. Most recently, the band have announced that their song, ‘Heathens’, will be part of the soundtrack for the upcoming film, ‘Suicide Squad’. The album cover was created by Reel Bear Media , and shows Tyler Joseph’s brother , Zack Joseph , at a baseball training camp . Joseph’s flow is unbelievably smooth behind vibe-y, soft beats of electricity.
