“Bicycle Thief” and “Chill Coat”, a play on the last name of the band’s lawyer, Jeff Chilcoat, were among some of the rejected band names. This goes back to college days, according to Joseph, when he was studying theater at Ohio State University. He got the band’s name and meaning from reading the 1947 play All My Sons by American playwright Arthur Miller. In the story, the main protagonist is a war contractor named Joe Keller who crafts airplane parts for war planes. Upon discovering some are faulty and would fail if used, he must decide whether or not to recall them. Keller is forced to make a decision to either spend his money trying to repair the faulty parts or press forward and use them.

Alongside this, the overall drumming has increased, adding more complexity to the mix thanks to the talent brought to the table by newly recruited Josh Dun. As this album leans more towards a demo album for almost half of the songs, a lot of the songs just sound underproduced compared to their fellow reworkings. But we aren’t here to compare, we’re here to see what we have, and what we have is pretty great as it is. On September 12, 2018, Twenty One Pilots played their first live show in over a year, titled A Complete Diversion, at O2 Brixton Academy in London. They performed the four released songs from Trench, as well as some songs from their previous albums, to promote the album and the upcoming The Bandito Tour.

On July 8, 2011, Joseph and Dun released a second independent album, Regional At Best. Since signing to Fueled By Ramen in 2012, the duo have released their major label debut Vessel in January of 2013, and its explosively popular follow-up Blurryface in May of 2015. Two new singles from the band, named “Jumpsuit” and “Nico and the Niners”, were simultaneously released on July 11, 2018.

I hoped this album would have some hidden gems that were not on Vessel, making this album a rare treasure, but I could find very few. The Vessel songs are, for the most part, just worse mixes of their Vessel counterparts. Sure, they have different elements in them, which I liked, but for the most part, they just made me feel like feeling was missing. It is definitely still an amateur mix, despite all the improvements in production since self-titled. The Regional At Best songs that didn’t make Vessel didn’t make Vessel for a reason.

Regional At Best is a 2011 studio album by Twenty One Pilots. This album comes in a jewel case with two disks, a copy of Regional at Best and a copy of the group’s self-titled debut album. The case has two print-out inserts featuring the front and back album art of the album. After signing with Fueled by Ramen in 2012, the rights to Regional at Best were transferred to the label. Along with the release of Vessel, Regional at Best was discontinued, no longer available digitally or physically except for on Pandora and Deezer. If you go to a Twenty One Pilots concert, you’ll leave with “Trees” stuck in your head.

The band announced a London show in February 2016, and later announced a run of UK dates, with a second London date added. Salih left on May 8, 2011 to focus on work, and Thomas left the next month on June 3, 2011 to focus on schooling, both posting farewell notes on the band’s official Facebook page. Before departing the project, Salih invited Guitar Center co-worker and friend of the group Josh Dun , to take his place in the band.

Az Lyrics Az

The band’s signature blend of piano rock, dance music, and hip hop is what makes up the DNA of Regional At Best, but without any of the over-the-top ambition and radio ready sheen that came with the following records. This gives the demo release a level of intimacy that their later works lack. It was this lack of big exposure that gave bandleader Tyler Joseph enough emotional security to feel brave enough to pour his heart and soul into this. He never expected anyone to hear him when he sung about car radios. Some of the best lyrics Tyler has ever written are found here, with two of the best instances found on tracks like Anathema and Kitchen Sink. Instead of being directed to a crowd of people, like in their later works, Tyler’s lyrics simply speak to his reflection or maybe even his best friend.

Tyler also says that he’s “insignificant” most likely meaning that there is nothing special about him that should make him stand out to be ‘chosen’ to be depressed. At the end of the song, in the outro, Tyler says “[he’s] sorry” possibly to God and himself as well, he feels that it is his fault that everything came to him becoming depressed. You can take some pop, hip hop, rock, and electronic and you get the frenzy that is this band. The album keeps things cheery most of the time but occasionally gets dark and introspective.

Thomas contributed guitar to several songs on the album, and collaborated with Joseph on the track “Trees”, which would later become a signature Twenty One Pilots song. Regional At Best was discontinued in 2013 by the band’s record label, Fueled By Ramen. FBR’s reasoning is believed to be because some of the songs on this were re-recorded and released in the band’s 2013 album, Vessel. “Slowtown”, “Anathema”, “Ruby”, “Be Concerned”, and “Clear” are the only songs that didn’t get re-recorded and are exclusive to Regional at Best. The songs “Glowing Eyes”, “Forest”, “Kitchen Sink”, and “Lovely” appear as bonus tracks on various digital versions of Vessel. Five of the tracks from Regional at Best — “Guns for Hands”, “Holding on to You”, “Ode to Sleep”, “Car Radio” and “Trees” — were re-recorded and released on Vessel.

Tyler will not disclose his meaning for kitchen sink, and I believe he has good reason not to, a reason I believe in, so neither will I. But I do have some quotes from Tyler regarding this song not to many posts back on my page. We are all fans of the band and this album, and supporting the band by purchasing their music legally is important. Since the album is no longer available people have resorted to downloading it illegally, meaning the band and label make no profit off the songs Tyler Joseph worked hard to create for us.

Most of the songs on the record are over 4 minutes, sometimes over 5 – breaking the mold for most dance numbers on top radio. On March 4, 2019, five months after the release of their fifth studio album Trench, the band confirmed that they were working on their next studio album. About the possible theme, Joseph said, “there’s a character that hasn’t been talked about on any record yet that plays a huge role in the narrative that obviously will need to be talked about and it’s probably where we’re going next”. On April 9, 2020, the duo released the song “Level of Concern”, which marked the first musical output by the duo since the release of Trench. On April 9, 2020, the band released a new single, “Level of Concern”.

“Ode to Sleep”, “Forest”, and “Kitchen Sink” contain some of his best rap performances in the band’s history, showing signs of his future niche in the band. Along with this, his vocals in choruses take a surprisingly major improvement, often hitting higher notes and embracing wider diversity in range. “Glowing Eyes” places Tyler on display as he sings lower registers in the verses while tackling those higher ranges in the chorus. This song kind of reminds me of Isle of Flightless Birds for some reason, like in the first verse, there’s two people wanting to talk to each other but neither willing to begin.

Some lines may seem familiar to you if you’ve heard the song, Blasphemy, a track from Tyler’s solo album he created before twenty one pilots called, No Phun Intended. Inbetween and behind the players on the opposite teams in the center are two players, one standing straight in blue and on crouched over in red with a dark colored tree inbetween them, much like the logo for twenty one pilots itself. Noting the songwriter’s talent and creative energy, Salih consulted Joseph about starting a band. Impressed by the recording studio Salih had built in his house, Joseph agreed to play music together and began sharing his ideas for new music. Just before their first performance, Joseph invited Thomas to join the unnamed band as a bassist. In 2009, the group moved into a house of their own, where their first album was conceptualized and recorded in the basement.

It takes no less than 20 seconds into “Good Day” to realize Twenty One Pilots’ sixth venture, Scaled and Icy, isn’t going to be like anything before it. Any playlist you want, you can create a playlist specifically for RaB if you want. The cover of twenty one pilots’ second album, Regional at Best, depicts Tyler Joseph’s little brother, Zach, at a Little League baseball game. An indie-pop anthem with a positive mental health message, “Guns For Hands” is one of TOP’s most oddly happy-sounding songs. Singer Tyler Joseph doesn’t shy away from the topic of suicide, and instead turns to a hopeful note by the end of the song.

Granted, the album sometimes sounds flat and underproduced or unfinished in many ways, but what we have here is an album that was foundational for their future success in Vessels and Blurryface. Although this album is rare, it still manages to be a monument of the band’s newly found sound, important to the band’s songwriting to this day. “You see rain” may mean that Tyler believes Nick and Chris left because they saw storms, or uncertainty in the future, they believed that the band would not be successful.
